![]() ![]() Is anybody on here using an Onyx FireWire card with a Mac? If so which brand of FireWire cable did you use? From what I've gathered at the Mackie forums these cards are picky about which cable you use and I'd rather not start buying every FireWire cable on amazon till I get one that works. Both the 820i and 1640i send Firewire out pre-fader. I've posted this question over in the Mackie forums and didn't get any useful replies. With a CENtrence driver (PC) or Aggregate Audio on the Mac, it is possible. Running the v1.7 driver (downloaded from mackie) and it has been rock solid on x399 platform with the SYBA SY-PEX30016. The old laptop was using a fw400 PCMCIA adapter and a fw400 to fw400 cable. Just adding another note that the 1640i (003 serial in this case) is working perfectly under windows 10 v2004. I was able to get the mixer to work/record using an old(and unreliable) laptop that I have running Ubuntu Studio and, on my other hard drive, windows 7. My main MIDI controller is a Yamaha Motif XS8. My current set up is Win 7 on a Dell XPS using PT 8.0cs3 MBox 2 Mini. I bought a fw800 to fw400 cable from Monoprice to connect the mixer to my laptop and haven't been able to get the laptop to "see" the mixer(in OSX or bootcamped Win7). I am thinking very strongly of upgrading to PT 9.0 using the Mackie Onyx 1640i as the interface, but I have some specific questions which I'll get into below after I describe my set up. Incredible sound quality, multitrack recording, and professional built-in effects make Onyx Premium Analog Mixers with USB the ultimate compact, affordable solution for live audio, home recording, and content creation. The original Onyx 1620, released way back in 2004, pioneered the multitrack 'mixerface' format, but while that model used Firewire as its interfacing protocol, the new generation connects via the ubiquitous USB. I got my mackie new in 2012 but these things are cheap to buy used these days. I did post a question in a thread about Linux benefits in audio, but realized it might be better to make my own. I've got a unibody (mid 2009) Macbook Pro that I'm trying to use with it to do live recordings I'll be using either audacity or Ardour to record with if it helps. Mackie 's headline NAMM announcement is the resurrection of the Onyx range of mixers. I'm actually not a reaper user (yet), but I'm currently trying to resurrect my former analog workflow with my darling Mackie Onyx 1640i. My band has a Mackie Onyx 1640(not the "i") with the FireWire card. ![]()
